George Alvin Koehler, 93, formerly of Freeport, died at Crestview Nursing Home in New Lisbon, Wisconsin on May 30, 2013. George was born May 9, 1920 to Dr Alvin and Helen (Stark) Koehler in Oshkosh, WI. He married Dorothy Lincoln in 1942 and she died in January of 2000.
He graduated from Oshkosh High School and got his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1947 and the University of Wisconsin law school in 1951. Served in US Army Air Force 1942 to 1946.
Member of Illinois and Wisconsin Bar Association.
George was an attorney for Crum & Forester for 30 years and for the Dar Allen Insurance until his retirement in 2000.
His memberships included First Lutheran Church, Freeport Elk s Lodge, Tebala Shrine and the Freeport Eagles Lodge.
Served on Republican Precinct committeeman 15 years, Vice chairman Republican Central committee six years. Member of Republican Central Committee executive board. Chairman of Stephenson County building commission five years. Member of Stephen County Board ten years, six of those years as County Board Chairman.
Surviving is his daughter Carol (Dean) Hansen of New Lisbon, WI and granddaughter Carrie (Steve) Pzynski, great grandchildren Lily and Milo Pzynski of Maple Grove, MN and nephew Tom Koehler of Urbana, IL and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, brother Jim and sister in-law Harriet and his niece Pam.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at First Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday 10 a.m. until time of service at First Lutheran Church
Memorials have been established for Friends Forever Humane Society and Shriner s Crippled Children Hospitals.
