Freeport-George E. Lybarger, SR, 82 of Freeport, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006. at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
He was born January 4, 1924 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He was married to Margaret Sandie on February 21, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan and she died August 17, 2004 in Freeport.
He enjoyed gardening and bowling. He was employed by Fullerton Pastry Shop and Snow White Bakery as a baker. He worked for Stephenson Nursing Center in the housekeeping department before retiring.
Surviving are two sons, George, JR. (Carol) Lybarger of Davis and Robert (Leah) Lybarger of Ridott; one daughter, Mary (Allen) Fink of Freeport; four sisters, Ruth, Midge, Mary, and Rose; a brother, Joe; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret, parents, George and Bertha; brother, Francis, sister; Vera; and a granddaughter.
George served in the Navy during WWII aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Shangri-La as a baker and fireman. He was discharged after the war.
Funeral service will be Friday 2 p.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend John Cahill of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday 1 p.m. until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established in his name for All Veterans' Memorial Park of Stephenson County.
