Gerald J. Masunas, age 88 of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on Friday, February 14, 2025. He was born July 16, 1936 in Chicago, IL; the son of the late Joseph and Bernice (Kishkunas) Masunas. Gerald married Carmen (Boyles) Walker on April 23, 1977.

He served in the United States Airforce for 6 years. He worked at Freightliner Trucking for many years. Later, Gerald sold lights to several major companies including Comiskey Park AKA Rate Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club.

Gerald enjoyed hunting and collecting firearms. He also had a talent for building full scale model airplanes, especially military airplanes, and for predicting the weather. He was an avid sports fan, attending numerous White Sox and Bulls games. Gerald also loved car shows and his motorcycles. His Royal Enfield was his last bike. He will always be remembered as being a giving person, always helping those in need.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carmen Masunas; sons, Michael (Fonda) Masunas and Joseph Masunas; daughter, Ann Ellanson; grandchildren, Tabby & Kaylie Masunas and Alison Bafia & A.J. Biondo; and sisters, Judy Oswald and Marilyn (Bob) Cavanagh. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name for the American Cancer Society and Friends Forever Humane Society.
