Gerald L. Olsen, age 88 of Davis, IL, passed away at home on Saturday, July 5, 2025. He was born February 17, 1937; the son of the late Charles and Blanche (Jones) Olsen. Gerald married Carol Steiner on March 9, 1968.
He was a 1956 graduate of Brodhead High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army. He served from 1957 to 1959 stationed in Germany and France. Gerald was a truck driver and worked for Warner Electric & Brake. He was a member of St. Paul Church of Epelyanna.
Gerald was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He attended the first Superbowl in Los Angeles, CA watching the Packers win. He also attended the Ice Bowl in Green Bay. Working was his hobby, always helping with anything that needed tending to, including tractor repair. He loved spending time with his grandkids, watching all of their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Olsen of Davis; children, Scott (Diane) Olsen and Amy (Bret) Meier all of Davis; grandchildren, Whitney (Jason) Lawton, Nate Olsen, Eden (Brighton) Haverland, and Paiton Meier; great grandchildren, RJ, Everlee, Luka, Bex, and one on the way; sister, Carole Riese; sister-in-law, Barb Olsen; and brothers-in-law, Ken Steiner and Frank (Sandy) Steiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Blanche; in-laws, Walter and Vila Steiner; brothers, Dick Olsen and Bob (Donna) Olsen; sister-in-law, Bethel Steiner; and brothers-in-law, Art Riese and Gerald (Elaine) Steiner.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul Church of Epelyanna in Davis, IL. The funeral service will be Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Paul Church Cemetery at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in his name. The family is being assisted by the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home of Dakota, IL. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com .
