Ridott – Gerald L. Ontjes, 94 formerly of Ridott, Illinois passed away at his home in Rockford, Illinois on February 10, 2025 with his family at his side.  He was born December 17, 1930 in Baileyville, Illinois to Ontje and Mae (Brookman) Ontjes.  He graduated from Leaf River High School and he served in the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.  He met his wife, Caroline while working at Burgess Battery in Freeport, Illinois in 1956 and they married on August 10, 1957. Together they built a life until her passing in January of 2024.

Gerald was a hardworking man who loved his family very much.  He especially enjoyed family vacations where many family memories were made together.  He loved blue grass music and even knew how to play some guitar and banjo through the years.  He and Caroline had fun attending Blue Grass festivals in the area together.

He is survived by his children, Randy Ontjes of Ridott, IL; James Ontjes and David Ontjes both of Freeport and Jennifer (Bryan) Cutler of Roscoe, Illinois.  He also leaves behind a brother, Leonard Ontjes of Ridott, Illinois.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Caroline and his daughter-in-law, Joy Ontjes.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at German Valley Christian Reformed Church beginning at 10am and a service will immediately follow at 11am also at the church.  His final resting place will be at the church cemetery next to Caroline.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com.  A memorial has been designated in his name.
