Rock City
Gladys G. Elmer, 90 of Rock City, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport surrounded by her family.
Born December 10, 1924 in Rock City she was the daughter of John W.D. and Clara (Benning) Schlueter. She and Ralph E. "Skip" Elmer were united in marriage on March 16, 1945. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2001.
Gladys farmed with her husband in the Rock City area for many years. After selling the farm, she worked for Newell until she retired. Gladys was a lifelong member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in Davis. She was an avid gardener, and spending time with her grandchildren gave her great joy.
Surviving are her children: Dennis (Evelyn) Elmer, Rick (Linda) Elmer both of Dakota, and Ronald (Kathy) Elmer of Rock City; her grandchildren: Greg (Carrie) Elmer of Byron, Denise (Bob) Whitman of West Bend, Wisconsin, Terissa (Brent) Brelsford of Denver, North Carolina, Brian (Jodie) Elmer of Freeport, Nic (Ann) Elmer of Davis, Renae (Jim) Pinter of Rock City, Lindsay (Victor) Spielman of Davis; her great grandchildren: Allison Grace Whitman, Aurelia Grace Brelsford, Cassidy, Conner and Caden Elmer, Grace Gladys Pinter, Max Spielman; step-children: Steve (Robyn) Stovall, Jamie Stovall, step-grandchildren: Lance Cox, Elizabeth & Kyle Maize, Bently & Ainsley Stovall, Micah, Caleb, & Gwynne Stovall; her sister, Fern (Don) Niedermeier of Rock City; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and their wives Vernon (Josie) Schlueter, Melvin (Bernice) Schlueter.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015 at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in Davis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota. Memorial Funds are being established in Gladys' name to benefit Alzheimer research and the St. Paul Church of Epleyanna.
