Obituary

Goldie F. Pfile, 86, of Freeport, went to her heavenly home Monday, December 12, 2011 following an extended illness due to complications from Parkinson's disease. She was born February 10, 1925 in Dixon, IL to Ward and Agnes (Landis) Shank. On September 22, 1946, she married Marvin F. Pfile at Sterling.
She was an active member of Freeport Mennonite Church. For many years, Goldie and her husband were involved in Mennonite Disaster Service projects and the annual Mennonite Central Committee meat canning project. In addition, they were church youth sponsors and Goldie helped with the publication of the church newsletter, News & Notes. Together they enjoyed traveling around the country with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning and card-making (in her later years).
She is survived by two sons, Steve (Jan) Pfile and Gary (Karen) Pfile, both of Freeport; two daughters, Jeanette (Michael) Murray of Freeport and Garnet (Dale) Nissley of Louisville, OH; twelve grandchildren, Julene (Eric) Ensign, Tammy (Tim) Straub, Joleen (Tim) Baumgartner, Craig (Miriah) Pfile, Sam (Kylie) Pfile, Ron Pfile, Jeff Pfile, Chad (Janet) Weber, Todd (Valerie) Weber, Kara (Lamont) Hail, Tanya (Chris) Holland and Shawn (Jessie) Nissley; nineteen great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Miriam (Ralph) Shank and Dorothy (Wilmer) Shank of Sterling, IL and Odela (Ray) Shank of Goshen, IN; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Goldie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin, who passed away in 2002; her parents; three brothers, Ralph, Ray and Wilmer Shank; and three sisters, Wilda Pfile, Vada Frey and Grace Witmer.
