Gordon Lee McCollum, 75 of Dakota died Wednesday February 18, 2009 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. Born November 28, 1933 at Crawfordsville, IN, he was the son of Bernard and Irene McCollum. He served in the U.S. Army from July of 1954 until July of 1956. He and Nancy Best were married August 31, 1974 at Peoria. He owned and operated McCollum Siding and Insulation for many years. Gordon enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and could build anything. He is survived by his wife Nancy, 3 sons Don "Punky" (Jamie Foster) McCollum, Nick McCollum, Otis McCollum; four grandchildren Austin, Anthony, Alex and Amber; extended family Matt and Carol Heinrich, Jason, Stephen; one sister Jula (Ray) Vince; two brothers Mark McCollum, Steve McCollum. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 21 at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota with the Rev Thad Rutter officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 am until the time of service.
A memorial has been established in his name.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
