Obituary

Gordon Lee Phillips, Gordy, 77, of Davis, IL, died October 15, 2024, surrounded by his family at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL.

Gordy was born in Freeport, IL, on November 1st, 1946, to Gerald and Luella Phillips. He grew up in Freeport, South Roxanna and Pecatonica IL.

Gordy graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1964 and married the love of his life, Joyce Martin, that same year on December 29th. This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary.

Also in 1964, Gordy started working at Ingersoll Milling Machine Company. Through the years, he worked in various positions and was extremely proud of his repair work while running a devileg boring bar. He made lots of friends there, especially his longtime friends, Chuck and Arley.

Both of Gordy's sons, Jake and Lloyd, worked with him at Ingersoll as well. He was there until 2002 when the company filed bankruptcy. He retired a few years later.

As a young man, Gordy enjoyed building and racing stockcars with his dad, Gerald. Together with their extended racing family, they took the Circle 3 to many checkered flags on area racetracks. Later in life, he renewed that joy working in his own shop with his sons building demo and enduro cars and working on his own projects.

With all of that, Gordy would always say that his biggest accomplishment was his family – his wife, sons and grandchildren. He was so proud of his wife, Joyce, for putting up with his crap, his sons for becoming the husbands and fathers they are and his grandkids and everything they do. Even though he could be an ornery old fart, which he didn't mind being called, he was always there, anytime for anyone who needed him.

Gordy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce, sons, Lloyd (Mindy) of Belvidere, Jason (Angela) of South Beloit, grandchildren, Travis (Maggie), Nathan (Raelea), Natalie, Logan and Zachary and great-grandson, Deklan.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn, his parents and brother, Jerome.

A visitation will take place Saturday, October 26 from 1-2 pm.  A funeral service will then follow at 2 pm.  All at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, IL.
