Freeport-Grace S. Julius, 96, of Freeport, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born November 16, 1909 in Germany she was the daughter of Zeede and Frances (Freerksen) Ruter She married Alvin William John Julius January 29, 1930 at Forreston Grove Manse.
Grace was a farm wife and avid vegetable and flower gardener. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who always had room for one more at her table for meals. There was always a cup of tea for everyone.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a former member of the Altar Guild and the Church Choir. The oldest member of Concordia Society, she often visited the elderly at the local nursing homes.
She was a supervisor of the Culinary Department at Stephenson County Fair for 38 years.
Surviving are her daughters, Thelma (Norman) Meeks of Forreston and June Donaldson of Jonesborough, TN; sons, Roger (Jane) Julius and Allen Julius both of Freeport; sister, Frances Zumdahl of Baileyville; sister-in-laws, Martha Ruter of Baileyville and Phyllis Ruter of Shannon; brother-in-law, Floyd (Irene) Julius of Lena; 12 grandchildren, Cynthia Meeks of DeKalb, Charles Meeks of Forreston, Debra (Tim) Apel of Freeport, Lisa Meeks of North Carolina, Tracy (Todd) Walper of Tokyo, Japan, William Donaldson, Thomas Donaldson, and Leslie (Charles) Padgett all of TN, Stephen (Anna) Julius, Daniel (Penny) Julius, Randall (Teresa) Julius, and Mark Julius all of Freeport; honorary granddaughter, Christina (Steve) Friedman of Springfield; 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; 1 son-in-law, Glenn Greenfield.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 11:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Reverend Willis Schwichtenberg and Vicar David Daniel officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church
