Obituary

Gregory "Greg" Eugene Pruitt , lifelong resident of German Valley/Riddott, passed away on May 29 th , 2022. He made his grand entrance into this world on October 18 th , 1956. He was born to Ray and Betty Pruitt. Ray was there, but if we are being honest, Betty did most of the work.

Greg was a good-looking fella and the ladies seemed to like him. But there was only one lady that was lucky enough to take the name "Mrs. Pruitt", Kathy Hutmacher. But only after she scared away or threatened any other girls that looked his direction. Like it or not, they were high school sweethearts. They married and had three sons together, Jered, Jeremiah, and Noah. He and Kathy were pretty fond of them. Oh, and they were also pretty crazy about their seven grandkids and great granddaughter.

Greg loved a good meal after a hard day's work. Grilling steaks and burgers and frying chicken were some of his specialties. He and Kathy always took a lot of pride in their garden and small farm where they raised a lot of their own food (garden vegetables, chickens, pigs, bunnies, and goats). He wasn't crazy about the butchering part, but he sure did love the bacon and eggs for breakfast every day. He had a lifelong love affair with pretzels, pork rinds, popcorn, Mrs. Mikes potato chips, and ice cream. For the life of us we still can't figure out why, but he loved saltwater taffy for a sweet treat.

Greg excelled at things like keeping critters from getting into the chicken coop, making up nicknames for his cats, and deciding if the weatherman was right about the forecast.

He was actually pretty incredible at a lot of things, but he wouldn't want us to brag.

Most people don't know this, but Greg spent a good amount of time as a model. He modeled hair accessories, nail polish, and all brands and colors of makeup for his granddaughters. He never gave us permission to release those pictures but trust us when we say that pink was definitely his color.

Greg took fashion cues from no one. A trend setter he was not. However, he loved nice pair of cargo shorts, work boots with knee high socks (worn only pulled all the way up), a pocket t-shirt always tucked in, and a baseball cap that was worn down to the threads and fitted like a mold of his head. He was the definition of the word "dad".

Greg was not exactly a world traveler, but he was lucky enough to go to Italy, Jamaica, Bora Bora, and some incredible east coast beaches. He enjoyed all those trips but fishing at the family cabin in Wisconsin was more his style. Puttering around in his own yard taking care of his wife's to-do list is probably what he enjoyed the most.

Politics and religion were not something he enjoyed discussing, but you could talk for hours with him about the neighbor's yard, who bought the house that went up for sale down the road, or what store is opening in the old K-mart/Jewel Osco. He could always join in on a conversation about rising gas prices and the cost of groceries. Please refer to the definition of "dad" again.

Due to Greg's very practical nature, he didn't want a fuss made over him and preferred not to have a public funeral. For many years he was in the business of construction as well as setting headstones in many cemeteries. So we think that if you are ever in cemetery or reading a granite headstone, take a minute to think of him because he may very well have been the guy to set that stone for someone you know or loved.
