Gwen O. Allen, age 92 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Saturday September 30, 2023 at Winn Prairie in Freeport. She was born April 24, 1931; the daughter of the late Donald and Opal (Hiteman) Wachlin. She graduated from Freeport High School.

Gwen was married to Philip Barcellona from 1953 – 1977. She later married Harry Allen, Jr. on May 13, 1977. She worked at MicroSwitch/Honeywell for her entire adult working life. She started as a key punch operator and ended her career as a Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Department until her retirement in 1991.

Gwen was a very active person who loved to play golf and in retirement frequently played 18 holes 7 days a week.  She was an avid skier, sailboarder and walker who for many years walked a daily route through Krape Park.  She also enjoyed playing cards, baking (rhubarb pies were her specialty) and watching televised sports (Fighting Illini, Chicago Bears and Bulls and professional golf).

She is survived by her husband, Harry Allen, Jr. of Freeport; and daughter, Karen Barcellona (from her first marriage to Philip Barcellona) of Los Angeles, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald & Opal Wachlin; brother, Donald Wachlin, Jr.; and sisters, Eleanor Thompson and Vivian Grenko.
