Freeport: Harold E. Bruce Sr. 73, died Sunday April 25, 2010 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport. Born June 17, 1936 in Freeport he was the son of Robert and Annie (Love) Bruce. On December 1, 1956 he married Sylvia Ann Youngblood and she preceded him in death in December of 2005. Harold worked for Burgess Battery and then for Newell Companies until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of St. James C.M.E. Church, the Freedom of Resistance and was an Army Veteran. Harold is survived by three daughters, Regina (Harris) Hale of Bolling Brook, IL, Denita Bruce of Honolulu, HI and Karressa Bruce of Omaha, Neb.; Three sons, Harold D. (Tamia) Bruce Jr. of San Diego, Cal., Harry Odele (Lisa) Bruce and Royce (Tiffany) Bruce both of Freeport; One sister, Martha Johnson of Freeport; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. James C.M.E. Church, Freeport with the Reverend Roy Howard officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum, Freeport. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary. A memorial has been established.
