Obituary

Freeport – Harriet L. Stauffacher, 90 of Freeport passed away at FHN Memorial Hospital on January 28, 2021. She was born July 9, 1930 in Jesup, Iowa, the daughter of the late Fred and Nellie (Grimes) Towell.  She graduated from Monroe High School, Monroe, WI in 1947. She married Daniel W. Stauffacher on July 10, 1960.  He died July 7, 1996.

She retired from Micro Switch in 1986 as packaging and shipping supervisor.  She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church (formerly Embury Methodist Church) and sang in their choir.  She was also a member of the Freeport Choral Society for many years.

Harriet was a veteran of the Women's Air Force (WAF) (enlisting against the wishes of her four brothers). She was the first female Air Traffic Control Instructor in the Women's Air Force.  She also marched in the Harry S. Truman Inaguration parade in January of 1949.

Surviving her is her daughter Pam (Jim) Dole of Freeport and her grandchildren Grant W. (Sydney) Hasting of Everett, WA; Avery L. Robertson of Raleigh, N.C. as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Donna Robertson, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Private family services will be held. Her final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens next to her husband and daughter.
