Harry C. Dodson, 83, of Freeport, died Friday, October 19, 2012, at Freeport Rehabilitation & Care Center.
Born October 29, 1928 in Freeport he was the son of Charles and Goldie (Kuhlemeier) Dodson. He married Lorraine Brown August 30, 1946 and she died April 14, 2009.
Harry worked as a meat cutter for Lee's Market and then was at Highland Community College.
He was honorably discharged from the National Guard having served from 1948 to 1953.
Harry enjoyed fishing at Lake Puckaway, Montello, Wisconsin, tinkering in his garage, working with model trains and old cars. He was a gifted story teller reminiscing about the good old days.
He never met a person he did not like.
Surviving are his children, Randy L. Dodson, Deborah (Curtis Dale) Marcum, and Larry (Melva) Dodson all of Freeport; 5 grandchildren, Laurie (Bob) Birchell of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Dan (Jody) Dodson of Palatine, Dorie (Nate) Sheppard of Freeport, David Dodson of Orlando, Florida, and Brad (Heidi) Marcum of Loves Park; 5 great grandchildren Riley Marie, Taylor Jayne, Owen, Logan, and Cody.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 am. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Walker Mortuary.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2012, at Walker Mortuary.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established for Hospice Care of America.
