Obituary

Harry William Jacobson, 88, of Freeport, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Manor Court.
Born December 7, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan he was the son of Eigel Harry and Lillian (Held) Jacobson and step-father George Danhauser. He married Roberta Elizabeth Bickley September 2, 1950 in Homewood, Illinois. She died October 6, 2011.
Harry was a graduate of Racine High School in Racine, Wisconsin, received his BS in Biology and Education from Carroll College, and his Masters in Zoology and Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin.
He was a US Army veteran serving in Europe with the 42nd Rainbow Division. He fought in three major battles and was awarded two Bronze Stars.
He retired from Freeport School District 145 after 33 years of teaching.
His memberships included United Presbyterian Church where he was a church Elder, Golden K. Kiwanis, Tri Beta National Honorary Society, Biologic al Society of Carroll College, Boys Scouts of American where he was an assistant Scout Master, and the V.F.W.
He loved golf, bowling, bike riding, travel, and gardening. He especially enjoyed being in the boat fishing with his grandchildren. For many years he was head of the Stephenson County Schools Credit Union.
Surviving are two sons, William (Kate) Jacobson of Hawaii and Bruce David (Beth) Jacobson of Eagle River, Wisconsin; two daughters, Jane Elizabeth (Michael) Taft of Lena and Mary Sue (James) Neff of Gratiot, Wisconsin; his sister, Beverly Doonan of Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin; his brother, Brian Danhauser; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; two aunts Mavis Agerholm and Ellen Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; two brothers, Arlan Jacobson and George Danhauser; one sister Marilyn Martinez; and his granddaughter, Brie Hoefle.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be held on January 26, 2012 at Freeport United Presbyterian Church.
Burial of his cremated remains will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established for United Presbyterian Church.
