Aug 23, 1944 — Sep 7, 2026
Harvey D. Suess, age 82 of Rock City, IL passed away at home on Monday, September 7, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born August 23, 1944 in Freeport, IL to Harold and Rosa (Saaijenga) Suess. He graduated from Dakota High School in 1962 and on October 9,1965 married Joann Nott, his high school sweetheart and cute redhead who lived just down the road from the family farm. He was a member of Rock Grove Dakota United Methodist Church.
Over the years Harvey worked in many roles. He drove truck, hauling milk cans for John Wenger, cattle for Schrader Marketing, and milk and whey products for Bennett Boals. He farmed for 40 years with his brother George and worked for his father-in-law, Kenny Nott at Rock Grove township. Harvey later took Kenny’s spot, serving as Road Commissioner for 24 years. He also served many years as a Rock City fireman, including 24 years as assistant chief.
Harvey loved spending time with his family and playing a good game of euchre. There were decades of kids’ events to enjoy - plays, concerts, ball games, even pulling the equipment trailer for Dakota Marching Indians. He played church and fire department softball, known as “Homerun Harvey”. In his retirement years, mornings with good friends at the local coffee shop’s “Table of Knowledge” were a favorite.
