Helen F. Alden, 91 of Freeport died Friday, March 21, 2014 at Presence St. Joseph Nursing Center, Freeport. Born February 16, 1923 in Pecatonica, she was the daughter of J. Herbert and Alice K. (Benson) Barr. She was a 1942 graduate of Dakota High School. On September 7, 1946 she and Franklin B. Alden were united in marriage in Dakota, he preceded her in death on April 21, 1964. She was a longtime member of the Baileyville Baptist Church. Helen had a great passion for quilting and loved spending time with her family and gardening. Surviving are her children Glen (Teri) Alden of Tyler, TX, Dale (Linda) Alden of Carol Stream, Gloria (John) Young of Little Hocking, OH, Jeannette (David) Kiper of Forest, OH, Brian (Rose Markel) Alden of Kenosha, WI, Gary (Jane) Alden of Bettendorf, IA, Carl (Virginia) Alden of Stillman Valley; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; sister Lucille Alden of Freeport; brother Charles Barr of Sherman, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two infant daughters Holly and Beth Sue, a sister Pauline Fazio, three brothers Arthur, Robert and Harry Barr. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Baileyville Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Baileyville Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Cassel officiating. Burial will be at the Dakota Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Baileyville Baptist Church.
