Obituary

Helen Schneeberger, age 88 of Davis, Illinois passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Medina Nursing Center, where she had recently entered hospice care. She was a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother.  Helen  was born July 2, 1937, the daughter of Otto and Edith (Toelke) Grunder. She married Richard Schneeberger on June 28,1957. They had lived continuously in the house they built in Davis, IL in 1960.

During her life, Helen worked at Micro Switch, Structo Manufacturing Co., Winnebago Plastics and Medina Nursing Center. She enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to Switzerland, the country of her parents' origin. Throughout her life, she was a prolific volunteer in the Davis community, including serving with the Tri-District ambulance service, mentoring students at Dakota High School and helping with local blood drives.

Helen is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Dana (Joel) Wood of Alexandria, VA; son, Todd (Diane) Schneeberger of Mequon, WI; siblings, Dorothy Kreger of Freeport and Charles (Deborah) Grunder of Claremont, Florida; sisters-in law, Marlene Crase of Davis and Donna Prince of Rock City;  and brother-in law, Steve (Sylvia) Schneeberger of Evansville, WI.  She had four grandchildren whom she adored:  Emily Schneeberger of Alexandria, VA; Abbey Schneeberger of Charlotte, NC; Julia Wood of Washington DC; and James Wood of Alexandria, VA.  She also is survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Otto Jr Grunder and Ben Grunder; sisters, Julia Grunder, Judith Strong, Marie Johnson, Edith Rosenstiel, Clara Gill, and Bertha Keister.

The funeral service will be on Monday, December 22nd at 11:00am at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna in Davis, Illinois with visitation before the service from 9:00am- 10:45am. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com.
