Helen E. Underhill, 91, of Freeport, died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born November 18, 1916 in Rockford she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Wernicke) Strohacker. She married Arthur J. Underhill May 20, 1944 and he died February 12, 1975.
Helen worked for C.H. Little, Montgomery Ward, Stephenson County Clerks office, and Stephenson County Sates Attorney office from which she retired in 1986.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and their Tau Alpha Circle. She volunteered for the RSVP and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Helen was an avid Cubs and Packer fan.
Surviving is her daughter, Carol (Gary) Jacobs of Sterling; granddaughter, Jenny (Dale) Merema of Chadwick and their children, Nathaniel and Abbygail Merema; her grandson, Andrew (Beth) Jacobs of Sterling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Robert.
Funeral service will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ with Reverend Donnley Dutcher officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Tuesday 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
A memorial has been established.
