Helen C. Winters, age 91 of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on Thursday, October 30, 2025. She was born September 13, 1934 in Forreston, IL; the daughter of the late Henry and Blanche (Bloyer) Diddens. Helen married Wilbur Winters on May 2, 1958; he passed March 3, 1989. She then spent several years with her special friend, Jerome "Romie" Strohacker who also passed on November 7, 2014.

Helen was a homemaker who loved children and provided childcare over the years. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church of Freeport and of the Freeport Eagles Club. She was a snowbird who enjoyed traveling south in the winter. She also loved all animals, especially her dogs. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Wednesday was her favorite day of the week because she spent them with her daughter, Betsy and she looked forward to her nightly call from her son, Mark at 6:40 p.m. Christmas Eve was always her favorite time of year.

She is survived by her children, Dena (Richard) Stacionis, Myra (Bob) Manning, Mark (Gracie) Winters, Janet Wunschel, and Betsy (Mike) George; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; daughter-in-law, Melissa Winters; and her dog, Max. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; special friend, Jerome; son, John; great grandson, Landyn Wenzel; brothers, Henry "Bud" Diddens, George Diddens, Ray Diddens, and Wayne Diddens; and sisters, Marian Myers, Doris Shane, and Lois Turner.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
