Henry Curtis Mayo, 68, of Freeport, died June 1, 2015 at Freeport Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Born January 14, 1947 in Gary, Indiana he was the son of William Henry and Anna Lee (Moore) Mayo. The oldest of nine children. Curtis was fond of Freeport as a child, staying the summer with aunts Anna Mae and Uncle Robt Wilson on Pleasant St. and decided that one day he would return. When he did, he rarely left. Always being in the company of Cousins Craig Ross or late Otis Kidd II and late Gary Ross, and his other friends. As far back in the 1970's many of them became lifelong friends playing Dominos, Spades and Tunk at the Eldorado Club, and later at the VFW on East Stephenson. Those friend continued to play Dominos with Curtis until health no longer permitted. Freeport was his mother's birthplace and made it his home as easily as the community adopted him.
Surviving are his Sons, Henry Curtis Mayo II of Goshen, IN and Jermaine Greene of Joliet, IL;
7 Grandchildren; 15 Great-grandchildren; 2 Brothers, Carl (Sandra) Mayo, Peter (Yolanda) Corley; 8 Sisters, Yvonne (M.C.) Jakes of Gary IN, Yvette (Hershell) Hannah of Peoria, IL,
Charlotte Bonds of Denver CO, Greta Cummings of Augusta GA, Julie (Al) Young of Denver CO,Angelia Corley-Teague of Denver CO,Belinda Corley-Turnipseed of Denver CO, And over 30 nieces and nephews across the United States, as well as devoted cousins Mark Cole and Craig Ross other family of Freeport.
He was preceded in death by parents William Henry Mayo, and Anna Lee (Moore) Mayo,
brother William Calvin, and sister Ellen Celeste. Grandfather Walter Moore, Grandmother Lois Kidd-Taylor, Great Grandmother Lena Allen-Stratton, Uncle Joe Allen, Aunt Dorothy Ross, Uncle Jay Moore, Uncle Earl Harper.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Walker Mortuary.
