Herbert I. Divan age 96 of Freeport, IL, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport. He was born May 6, 1920 in Peoria, IL to the late Walter B. and Gertrude (Dittman) Divan. His family moved to the Freeport area when he was 12 years old and he lived in his family home until 2014. Hebert graduated from Freeport High School in 1938.
After graduating, he went to work for Micro Switch, now Honeywell. He worked there until he retired. He was a former member of St. John United Church of Christ in Freeport. He enjoyed University of Illinois football and going to Madison to watch sporting events and shows. He also enjoyed puzzles and loved mysteries. He was a very charitable man and supported many area organizations especially the Salvation Army. Herbert's family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to staff of Presence St. Joseph for the wonderful care they provided.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, June Divan of Beloit, WI; nephew, Rick (Sue) Divan of Princeton, WI; nieces, Debbie Norris of St. Charles, IL and Cindy (Michael) Clemens of Racine, WI; and many great nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by parents and brother, Walter.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 15th at 11:00 am at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.walkermortuary.com.
