Obituary

Lewistown: Herbert E. Martz, 77 formerly of rural Freeport, died Monday May 26, 2008 at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Lewistown. Born August 20, 1930 in Brookville, he was the son of Samuel O. and Ada (Thomas) Martz. On November 30, 1952 he married Deloris M. Maize in Freeport, she preceded him in death in November of 1988. He later married Beatrice Vietmeier April 12, 1994, she preceded him in death in March of 2001.
Herbert was an Army Veteran, a member of the Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church, Rolling Hills Auxillary Unit in Lanark, and assistant 4-H leader for the Dakota Big 4.
Surviving are his two daughters, Susan (Matthew) Lowers of Sheffield, Lori (Matthew) Peace of Freeport; one son Ronald Martz of Orangeville; 3 step-sons Craig, Curt and Kevin Vietmeier and families; 9 grandchildren Melissa, Christina and Samuel Lowers, Ryan and Rodney Voss, Krista (Carlos) Perez-Santiz, Brandon, Colton and Autumn Love; 2 great grandchildren Joseph Roacho and Briauna Love; brother Richard (Ruth) Martz of Shannon; sister-in-law Carol Martz of Shannon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, infant daughter Deborah Lynn, brothers Marvin, Arnold, Keith, sisters Doris, Arlene and grandson Jason Voss.
Visitation will be Thursday 5pm until 8 pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday at Winneshiek Evangelical Free Church 3842 E. Winneshiek Rd. Freeport with the Reverend John McIntosh officiating.
Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for the Church.
