Herman O. Gerber, 87, of Freeport, died Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born March 31, 1924 in the Dakota area of Stephenson County he was the son of Paul and Martha (Steinman) Gerber. He married Margaret Leiby in 1952.
Herman was owner and operator of Herman Gerber Plumbing retiring in 1988.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret of Freeport; 2 daughters, Marlene (LaVerne) Barker of Red Oak and Marcene (Bob) Meeks of Rock City; 1 sister, Rosemary (Gilbert) Enke of Janesville, WI; 6 grandchildren, Steve Foulker, Tim (Kathy) Foulker, Donnie (Holly) Foulker, Marcette (Henry) Happ, Michelle (Brian) Brightman, and Michael Meeks; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 7 sisters; and 1 granddaughter.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. October 27, 2011 at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be October 27, 2011 10 a.m. until time of service at the Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
