Freeport – Ilene A. Larson, 88 of Freeport passed away peacefully at home with her daughters by her side. She was born November 27, 1936 in Harmon, Illinois to the late Amos and Irma (Sorenson) Garland.  She married Robert P. Larson on August 6, 1955, who passed away on August 17, 2022.

Ilene was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, with St. Joseph's being her final parish.  She was blessed with creative talent and created many hand stitched quilts for family and dear friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Mullens of Freeport and Dana (Craig) Marshall of West Gardiner, ME; her brother, Harold (Mary Ann) Garland of Olympia, WA; and her brother-in-law, Bill Schmelzer of Freeport.

Her legacy also includes 7 grandchildren: Jessica (Adam Dyson) Larson of Freeport; Jeffery (Ericka) Larson of Freeport, Jared (April) May of Orangeville, Cassandra May of Clinton, IA; and Trinity, Michael and Natasha Marshall, all of West Gardiner, ME.  She also has 8 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert P. Larson; sons, Richard and Robert A. (Christine); sisters, Teresa Jones and Jacqueline Schmelzer; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence (Liz) Garland; and brother, Dan Garland.

There will be a memorial service held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 11am at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace.  Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com.
