Freeport: Irene Martha Miller, 98 of Freeport died Wednesday February 23, 2005 at Provena St. Josephs Center, where she had been a resident for four years. Born November 5, 1906 in Freeport She was the daughter of Henry and Pauline (Wienand) DeFrane. A Sunday School attendee at St. John's Church since 1914, Irene became a member there by confirmation in 1935. In 1925 she married Alfred Raih. She and Raymond F. Miller were married in 1957 and he died in 1989. Irene's hobbies included crocheting; all styles of needlework; reading poetry and biographies; bowling for 51 years; traveling; and the companionship of her devoted pets. Survivors include her daughter, Geri Trandel; sister Marie Kirchberg; sisters-in-law, Lois DeFrane, Eldora DeFrane, and Corinne DeFrane; and a step-grandson, Roger Miller all of Freeport. Many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, Roger Trandel; and eight siblings: Amanda, Mabel, Harry, Edward, Clarence, Ralph, Carl, and Lloyd. A Graveside service and burial will be held Monday 1:30 p.m. at Cedarville Cemetery, Cedarville, IL with the Reverend Tom McClellan of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church officiating.
