Jack R. Taber, 88, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Presence St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born June 24, 1927 in Erie, Illinois he was the son of Rudolph and Margaret (Wright) Taber. He married Marian Croffoot November 6, 1948.
He was a US Air Force Veteran serving in the Philippines and Okinawa.
Jack owned his own Milk Route, worked at JR Case and Canteen Vending both in Rock Island, Stover Steel Tank, Economy Insurance, Freeport School District, and the Masonic Temple all in Freeport.
He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ.
A 32nd Degree Mason he was a member of Scottish Rite in Freeport.
Surviving are his wife, Marian of Freeport; his foster daughter, Merlene Prachniak of Lewisville, Texas; many nieces and nephews including his niece, Nancy Keister of Loves Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 1 sister; and 2 sister-in-laws.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Bethany United Church of Christ.
There will be a visitation on Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Bethany United Church of Christ.
