Obituary

Jackie D. Newton was called home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2021. Jackie was born on November 9, 1949 in Henning Tennessee to William A. Elem and Recie L. (Morgan) Elem. She graduated in 1967 from Lauderdale High School.

Jackie moved to Freeport, IL in 1967. She married the love of her life, Sam Newton on September 4, 1968. She gave her life to the Christ at an early age and served as a member of St. Martin Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Ernest Curry, where she sang in the choir. She later became a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Superintendent Lynn H. Hawkins & Mother Mary Hawkins in Freeport. She was the President of the Christian Women's Council, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served on the Usher Board and she was the Mother of  the Church from 2009 to present. Her church was a very important part of her life, and she loved serving the Lord! Mother Newton enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a great cook. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mother Newton leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Deacon Sam Newton; son, Pastor Samuel (Melissa) Newton of Freeport; daughters, Latarsha Newton and Chandra Newton, both of Freeport; grandchildren, Olivia Newton, DeSamara Newton, Ariana Newton, Amari Newton, Ebony Sample, Javon Newton, and Elijah Newton; great-grandchildren, Daichi Daniels and Landon Newton; special goddaughter, Kayla Seals; brothers, Danny Elem, James Elem, Donald Morgan, Vincent Morgan, Darryl Elem, Jermaine Elem; sisters Ethel Drake, Marie (John) White, Lillie Morgan-McNeal, Patricia Doss, Vanessa Elem, Brenda Elem; sister in laws, brother in laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; Special friend, Mary Carter.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, William (Bill) Elem, Herman Lee Morgan; nephew, Mark Anthony Elem; niece, Dena Elem; brother in law, Rory F. McNeal

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ at 4 E. Iroquois Freeport, IL from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial has been established in her name.
