Freeport-James Vernon "Bullet" Kirk, 77, of Freeport, died Sunday, May 27, 2007, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
Born April 4, 1930 in Rumble, West Virginia he was the son of Fred and Myrtle (Carr) Kirk. He married Ramona Janssen in 1950 and she died in 1980.
Bullet was a cement contractor in Freeport for over 35 years.
He was well known for pitching fast pitch softball. He was recruited by Henny Hearse Company to come to Freeport to pitch in 1949.
Surviving is his life partner, Arlene Wellner of Freeport; two sons, Greg Kirk and Kevin (Jo) Kirk both of Freeport; 3 grandchildren, Lance Kirk of Largo, Florida, Eric Kirk and Todd Kirk both of Freeport; 3 sisters, Mary (Bill) Cornell and Diane Epling both of Rumble, West Virginia, and Alice (Jim) Trusley of Weekie Watchie, Florida.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be Saturday 11 a.m. at Walker Mortuary with Reverend Willis Schwichtenberg of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service at the Mortuary.
A memorial fund has been established.
