James Gentz, age 89 of Beloit, WI, formerly of Rockton, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Beloit Senior Living. He was born August 9, 1929; the son of the late Albert and Elta (Meyer) Gentz. He graduated from Dakota High School. James married Norma Hufford on July 5, 1947; she passed on April 9, 2018.

James was a business owner and auto mechanic for over 40 years. He also served on the Rockton Fire Dept. for many years, 10 of which he served as Fire Chief. James and Norma were members of the Old Stone Church in Rockton. He enjoyed being involved in his community and took the time to coach Pony League Baseball. Most of all, his free time was spent with his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Diana (John) Cully of Hilton Head, SC, Dennis (Lori) Gentz of Clarksville, TN, Debra (Tom) Kurz of Katy, TX, Dalon Gentz of Lake Mills, WI, and Daryl (Tracy) Gentz of Rockton; grandchildren, Natalie Kurz of Houston, TX, Patrick (Maureen) Kurz of Raleigh-Durham, NC, Amanda (Kevin) Mansfield of Lake Mills, WI, Michael Gentz of Freeport, and Brendan Gentz of Rockton; great granddaughters, Clare & Greta Kurz; and Jade Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; and brother, Bob Gentz.

Private family services are being handled by the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota, IL. Interment will take place at the Rock City Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
