Obituary

John J. Ginger, 79, of Freeport, died on April 6th, 2022 at Freeport Memorial Hospital.  Born October 6, 1942, in Dixon, Illinois, he was the son of John F. and Mary (Bonardi) Ginger.  He is survived by his brothers, Joseph E. (Toni) Ginger of Freeport and nephews, Matthew, of Chicago, IL, Derek (Sue) of Lake Worth, FLorida;  Richard P. Ginger and nephew, Dalton of Warner Robins, GA; His daughter, Krista Ginger-Groshans (Bill) of Galena, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  John was a graduate of Freeport High School (1960), Highland Community College (1979) and Cardinal Stritch University of Milwaukee (1986).  He was a Viet-Nam Era Air Force veteran and was assigned to the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing at R.A.F. Lakenheath in England where he was a mechanic for ground support equipment.  He completed his enlistment as Non-Commissioned Officer In -Charge (NCOIC) of training for the 48th Field Maintenance Squadron attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He retired form Honeywell in 2001 after 41 years of employment.  John was a life-long motorcyclist and a member of the Illinois Chapter C-2 of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA); he was a Registered Ultralight Pilot and a member of the Untied States Ultralight Association (USUA).  He had also served on the Freeport Airport Commission.  His hobbies included digital photography, woodworking and kayaking.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
