Freeport: James J. Holbert, 77 of Freeport died Monday October 18, 2004 at his home. Born September 11, 1927 in Freeport he was the son of Clarence E. and Binnie (Williams) Holbert. On December 31, 1961 he married Viola Mae Mellen in Denver, CO. She preceded him in death in August of 2000. Jim worked for Modern Plating and then Taylor Freezer in Rockton, retiring in 1989. He was a friend to Faith United Methodist Church, a member of the Freeport Eagles Club and was in the National Guard from 1946-1950. He was an avid Bowler for over 63 years and bowled a 700 series once. He also loved being in the outdoors hunting and fishing. Surviving is one step daughter, Judy (Jerry) Prasse of Freeport, One brother, Clarence (Zoe) Holbert Jr. of Freeport, four sisters, Berniece (Tony) Cali, Marian (Russell Messman) Richart, Matilda (Henry) Klosa and Norma Ernst all of Freeport two grandsons David A. (Cheryl) Prasse of Freeport and Randall S. (Susan) Prasse of Racine, WI, six Great granddaughters Elizabeth and Amanda Montgomery and Emma Prasse all of Racine, WI and Sarah, Megan and Heather Prasse all of Freeport. Two Brothers-In-Law, Leroy Johnson of Freeport and Edward Johnson of Palos Verdes, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one grandson. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 am at Faith United Methodist Church with the Reverend Douglas Q. Bowden officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden.
