Freeport: Jane M. DeLander 76, of Freeport died Wednesday April 26, 2006 at the Freeport Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Born January 23, 1930 in River Falls, WI. she was the daughter of Oscar and Dora (Means) Lee. On October 20, 1949 she married Harley E. DeLander in Baldwin, WI and he died August 3, 1990.
Jane moved to Freeport in 1965 and joined the First Presbyterian Church, were she served as an Elder, Deacon, and Sunday school teacher. A member of the Presbyterian Women she enjoyed their projects, especially cooking for the women.
She also was a volunteer at FHN Memorial Hospital and the Freeport Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Her pets were very important to her. She loved to collect things, travel, and spend time with her friends.
Jane loved Christmas. In her opinion this was the most important birthday party of the year.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Meier of Waterloo, IA and LeeAnn (Dale) Weber of Freeport; two sons, Gary (Anne) DeLander of Corvallis, Oregon and Bob DeLander of Freeport; and 12 grandchildren, Dale Jr., Trista, Elizabeth, Kathryn, Kasie, Rebecca, Sara, Alexander, Joshua, Eric, Sierra, and Harley.
Her parents; husband; one son-in-law, William J. Meier; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Meier preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be Monday 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Carol Shaffer officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established in her name for the Presbyterian Stronghold Retreat, Friends Forever Humane Society and the Freeport Police Department's Canine Unit.
