Obituary

Jane Jordan Livermore Goodspeed was born on January 22, 1934, in Highland Park, Michigan. She was the daughter of James Northrup Livermore and Dorothy Jordan Livermore. Jane attended school in Ferndale, Michigan where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. In 1956 she graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching second grade in Highland Park, Michigan. In December of that year Jane married Roger Goodspeed who was a medical student at Wayne State University. Roger went on to an internship and residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Their children, Christine and Randy were born at that hospital. The family moved to Freeport, Illinois in 1964 where Roger began his medical practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Freeport Clinic.

In 1971 the Goodspeed family moved to Cedarville, Illinois. They built a home on Pine Hill, property once owned by Jane Addams' father. Pine Hill has been the setting for many events including making apple butter every year with dear friends, hosting Freeport Clinic parties, an Easter Sunrise service, garden parties, and many family reunions. At the time of our nation's bicentennial, Jane helped to organize the Cedarville Historical Society. She also served on the Freeport School Board, the Jane Addams Mental Health Board, and the board of the YWCA. Her membership in the P.E.O. sisterhood spanned more than 70 years, many of them in Chapter BE of Freeport. Jane was a member of the Stockton Unitarian Universalist Church.

The Goodspeeds enjoyed traveling to many interesting places including a tent safari in Africa, visiting manor houses in Ireland, and small ship sailing in Alaska, Turkey, Indonesia, and the Galapagos.  Their most recent vacation was a trip driving around the Great Lakes. After Roger's retirement, they spent many winters on Lake Palestine, Texas near their son and grandchildren. In 2012, they moved to a condominium at Parkview in Freeport, where they loved to entertain friends and family.

Jane is survived by her husband Roger, her children, Christine (Bruce) Baldwin of Cedarville and Randall Goodspeed of Flint, Texas. Her surviving grandchildren are Alexander (Alys) Baldwin, Katherine Baldwin, Meghan (Brendon) Riley, Ryan (Kelsey) Goodspeed, and Natalie (Geo) Tranquilino. Jane and Roger have also been blessed with 4 great grandchildren.
