Obituary

Jane L. Miller 80, of Rock City, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at her home. Born July 17, 1933 in Rock City, she was the daughter of Roy J. and Anna Iva (Miller) Hofmeister living in the area her entire life. She graduated from Dakota High School in 1951 and began her career with Freeport Health Network in September of 1951 (spending the next 62 years as a dedicated employee retiring on August 30, 2013) On September 27, 1953 Jane married Russell Miller. She was a member of Rock City United Methodist Church her entire life being very active in United Methodist women, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, playing the piano and singing in the choir, and was church treasurer at the time of her death. Jane would always say her favorite room in the house was the kitchen and on Christmas she baked dozens and dozens of cookies for her children and grandchildren. She was also a prodigious pie baker and her ground cherry pies were coveted by relatives and friends alike. She is survived by her devoted husband Russell of 60 years who was her primary caregiver; three children Thomas (Tamera) Miller of Lake Carroll, Jodean (Paul) Logli of Rockford, Jean Mukand of Batavia; eight grandchildren Ashley (Joshua) Parkinson of New Berlin, WI, Zachery (Lindsey) Miller of Pearl City, Peter Logli of Chicago, Benjamin and Jacob Logli of Rockford, Eric Mukand of Rochelle, , Evan and Ethan Mukand of Batavia; three great grandchildren Kaydence, Mya and Channing; one sister Iva Jean (Joseph) Sorn, brother-in-law Ernest (Nola) Miller , sister-in-law Carol Cramer, special cousin Cynthia (Ulan) Price and special aunt Sylvia Thoren, niece Rhonda (Byron) Manessier. Preceding her in death were parents, a brother Quentin and brother-in-law Dado Cramer. Visitation will be Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Rock City United Methodist Church, Rock City. A celebration of life will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at the church with Reverend James Ketzel officiating. Cremation rites will follow the service and interment will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. A memorial has been established in her name for the Rock City United Methodist Church, FHN Hospice and the Rockford Rescue Mission.
