Freeport
Janet J. Hammond, 78, of Freeport, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born January 23, 1934 in Stockton she was the daughter of Glenn and Edna (Heck) Blair Sr. She married Neily O. Hammond Jr. on September 7, 1954.
Janet was a local beautician in Freeport for many years. She became a beautician in 1963. An addition was built to the home, so that she could work but still be close to her children.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved traveling, cooking and entertaining. She especially enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband, Neily of Freeport; 3 daughters, Terri Franklin of Machesney Park, Kathy (Richard) McNett of Lena, and Sue Stichter of Freeport; 1 son, Todd (Marsha) Hammond of Crystal Lake; 1 sister, Betty Gallagher of Stockton; 1 brother, LaVerne Blair of Freeport; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Glenn Jr.; and 2 great grandchildren, Joshua and Dawson.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday 12 noon until time of service at Walker Mortuary.
A memorial has been established in her name.
