Jay Nevenhoven, age 91 of Baileyville, IL, passed away at home on Sunday, January 25, 2025. He was born on April 9, 1933; the son of the late Henry and Florence Jean (VanMater) Nevenhoven. He attended Forreston High School. Jay married Delores Lawson on May 11, 1957.
He was the boiler-man at MicroSwitch for 42 years. Jay was a member of First Lutheran Church of Freeport and of the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge. He lived in Baileyville for his entire life and at 91 years old he was the longest living resident. He was a registered inventor and built two buggies. He loved football and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He took meticulous care of his lawn and enjoyed camping. Together, Jay and Delores enjoyed going to the casino. Jay will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Nevenhoven; daughter, Jill Ann (David) Veer; granddaughter, Amanda Lee; great grandchildren, Reese Rawleigh and Devon Ellis; great great grandchildren, Oaklee and Emrey; brother-in-law, Gary Lawson; sister-in-law, Margaret Althoff; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean (Karl) Sutterlin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport, IL with Pastor Barb Stark presiding. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
