Dakota – Jean M. Bordner, 96 of Dakota passed away on Wednesday, September 15th with her family by her side at St. Joseph Ascension Living in Freeport. Born on March 12, 1925 to the late Glen and Viola (McDougle) Neuschwander. She and Carl Bordner were united in marriage on June 19, 1943. Together they owned and operated Bordner Oil, where she kept the books and they also farmed in the Dakota area. She was also at one time a playground supervisor at Dakota Elementary school. In addition to raising a family she worked at Economy Insurance for 14 years as well as the Dakota Post office. She loved flowers, sitting on the porch and being with family.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret 'Peg' (Dan) Whittenberg of Thompson Falls, MT and Arlene (Ted) Jaeger of Dakota; sons, Ray (Ruthalie) Bordner of Rock City and Larry Bordner of Dakota. She also has 2 half brothers, Jake Neuschwander of Lena and Jack Neuschwander of Louisville, KY.Her legacy also includes 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a twin sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Rupnow.
Services will be on Friday, September 24th at the Dakota -Rock Grove United Methodist church with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am and a service immediately following at 11:00 am with Pastor Leslie Stanford officiating. Burial will take place at the Dakota Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name for the Dakota United Methodist Church and the Dakota Fire Department. Condolences can be left for the family here.
