Jean Emma Grant, 93, died on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Oakley Courts in Freeport, Illinois. She was born on August 7, 1927 in Chicago, IL. to Walter and Pearl Shimp.  Jean married Orin Grant in Evanston, IL. on Aug. 27, 1949 and they were married for 60 years, until Orin's death.

Jean and Orin lived in Katonah, NY for 52 years, and in 2006 moved to Freeport, IL.

Jean was long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Katonah, where she was active as Church Elder, Usher, Greeter, on the Session and Presbyterian women's group.  Jean was also a long time member of the Women's Civic Club in Katonah, where she served as President, hospitality chairman and managed their Thrift Shop for over 20 years.  She was also a Lionette and book keeper for the family business.  Jean was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years.

In Freeport, Jean joined the United Presbyterian Church where she was Deacon for 8 years.  She also belonged to the Presbyterian Woman's Group and served as Treasurer.  She was treasurer of the Liberty Villa Association for 8 years.

Jean was an avid bridge player in Katonah and Freeport, she belonged to many groups.  Mom was also an avid Cubs fan and SO glad she lived long enough to see them win the World Series!

Jean is survived by her children: Carol Schmitt of New Milford, CT. and Brad Grant, of Freeport, and her grandchildren: Ethan Grant, Hannah Grant, Erik Schmitt, Keith Schmitt, and Michael Schmitt and her Great grandchildren: Jordana, Jackson, Juliette, Luca, Quinn, Evalynn, Jemma, and Merrick.

Her family hopes to have Celebration of life services in the Spring of 2021 in Freeport and Katonah.  Her ashes will be interrned in the Memorial Garden at the First Presbyterian Church of Katonah.

In lieu of flowers the family has set up a memorial fund in her name at Walker Mortuary in Freeport.  A donation will be made to the Girl Scouts of America in her name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
