Jean Walker, 85 of Freeport died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Parkview Home with her family at her side.
Born December 21, 1926 in Freeport she was the daughter of Leo and Florence (Thoren) Rowen. She married Orland E. Walker on June 19, 1954.
She received her BS in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jean was a school teacher specializing in speech therapy for 24 years.
She was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Freeport Auxiliary of the Children's Home & Aid Society of Illinois and past President of the Shakespeare Society.
Following Orland's retirement they enjoyed traveling both at home and abroad. They also spent many winters in Texas with a group of their lifelong friends.
Jean was an avid bridge player and played with the Tuesday Bridge Club for many years.
Surviving are her husband, Orland, of Freeport; two sons, David M. (fiancé Belinda Bender) Walker of Freeport and Stephen R. (Wendy) Walker of Sammammish, Washington. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Jayne and Lucy Walker also of Sammammish WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation rights have been accorded.
Visitation will be Thursday November 29, at Walker Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m..
Memorial Services will be conducted by Reverend Kathleen Luke on Friday, November 30, at 10:30 a.m. at United Presbyterian Church. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the Church.
A private inurnment will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
A memorial fund has been established for the United Presbyterian Church as well as Parkview Home.
