Jean M. Thornlund

Jean M Thornlund, age 93, of Freeport, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Allure of Mt Carroll nursing home.

She was born July 28, 1933 to Conrad and Louise (Hodgson) Winter in Schapville, Illinois.

She was married to Floyd Baker of Freeport for 20 years. She was later married to Stuart Thornlund until his death in 2015. She worked at Newell and Honeywell in Freeport where she met several lifelong friends.

Jean was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake. Everyone loved her special decorated Santa Claus cookies that she baked every Christmas. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching basketball and NASCAR, especially #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Jean is survived by her daughters Cindy (Larry) Vondran of Janesville, Wisconsin and Sue (Duane) Steele of Cedarville, Illinois. Granddaughters Betsy (Greg) Gilpin of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Katie (Joel Wagand) Smith of Freeport, Illinos, and Summer (Mark) Flowers of Cary, Illinois, 4 great grandchildren and sisters Shirley Wurster of Elizabeth, Illinois and Barb Cromwell of Monroe Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stuart, parents Conrad and Louise Winter, sisters June Lockner and Ellen Vickers, and brothers Donald Winter and Glenn Winter.
