Freeport – Jeri Ann Nieman, 87 of rural Freeport passed away peacefully at Winn Prairie Assisted Living in Freeport on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 with her husband at her side. She was born on September 23, 1937 in Freeport to William and Phyllis (Campbell) Motter.
She graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1955. She married, Ray Nieman at the Dakota Community Church on August 11, 1957 and together they built a life of friendship and love. Jeri was a member of St. John United Church of Christ
Jeri farmed with her husband until her sons were old enough to help out. From 1982 to 2005 she began working outside the home for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services with the DORS program, as a case coordinator. Prior to that she also worked for the Illinois Association of Meat Processors.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Nieman of 68 years. Her son, Greg (Candice) Nieman of Freeport and Brad (Jody) Nieman of Freeport. Her sister, Susan (Jim) Rupnow of Columbus, Wisconsin; Sisters-in-law Norma (Jonas) Linder of Freeport, Delores (Wendell) Poppen of Leaf River and Joanne Motter of Freeport; Brother-in-law, Lawrence (Paula) Nieman of Ridott, Illinois.
Her legacy includes her grandchildren. Jackie (Eric) Sundquist of Winnebago; Jered (Tiffany) Nieman of Lena and Nate (Courtney) Nieman of Freeport. 4 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Bill Motter.
There will be a visitation held on Tuesday, August 5th beginning at 10am followed by a service at 11am all at Walker Mortuary. Her final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. A memorial has been designated for Sanctuary Hospice of Rockford, Illinois.
