Jerome A. DeHaven, 90 of Dakota passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Medina Manor Nursing Center, Durand.
He was born April 15, 1922 in Orangeville, the son of Arthur and Susan (Fenner) DeHaven.
On November 1, 1944 he married Caroline N. Alden in Freeport. She preceded him in death on April 27, 2000.
For many years he was a partner of the Dakota Plumbing and Heating Company and later was employed at the Amerock Corporation in Rockford retiring in 1986. He was a longtime member of the Dakota Volunteer Fire Department.
Jerry had a passion for woodworking and was very proud to show his creative works to anyone that stopped to visit and also displayed his creations at the Antique Engine and Threshing Shows. He also enjoyed growing flowers and working outside in his yard with his constant companion 'Angel' nearby.
Survivors include: one son Gerald (Pat) DeHaven of Rockford and one daughter Susan (Ray) Smith of Dakota. Four granddaughters, Jennifer (Brad) Hoggatt, Jillane (Kyle) Toelke, Stacy Bobay and Laura (Craig Pannkuk) Groom and one grandson, Jeff (Valerie Lender) Smith. There are fourteen great grandchildren. Three step grandsons, Chad (Tonia) Phippen, Nate (Val) Phippen and Tory (Leah) Phippen,
and five step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also, his beloved dog Angel, who was his pride and joy.
He was preceded by his parents, wife Caroline, one sister Ruth DeHaven, two brothers, Fremont and Theodore DeHaven
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Dakota United Methodist Church, 120 S. Church Street, Dakota. Reverend Tom Bourke Jr. will be officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Dakota Cemetery.
A memorial fund is being established in his name.
