Jerry Tempel Obituary

Jerry Allen Tempel 67 of Freeport passed away peacefully on February 2nd 2026 with his family by his side after a brief illness.

He was born December 6th 1958 in Freeport Illinois. The son of the late Walter and Anna (Schroeder) Tempel. Jerry married the love of his life Cheri Boyer on July 24, 1981 in Freeport Illinois.

Jerry served his country in the United States Army for 3 years.

He was employed as a Sr. Automotive Instructor for V2X for many years. He was a member of Open Bible Church and served as an Elder/Board Member since 2007. He served as the small group leader also.

In his teenage years he raced Motocross, which followed him into his adulthood. He took many trips across the United States riding his Harley Davidson and as he approached middle age, he traded riding his motorcycle to taking trips with his wife to Texas and Tennessee with his 5th wheel, spending time with family and friends.

Jerry touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. His Selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion that lives on in all of us.

Jerry (Pepa) adored his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

Jerry is survived by his wife Cheri, his children Dan (Carrie) of Madison WI, Angie of Freeport and Nathan (Nicole) of WI.

Grandchildren, Clayton (Angel), Kylie (Zed), Maddi, Kara, Tristan, Piper, and Keaton. Great Grandchild, Kay. Mother in-law Darlene Boyer, Brother Gene Tempel, Brother in-law Keith (Butch) Boyer, Sister in-law Kathy (Ellwyn) Wenzel, Sister in-law Brenda (Paul) Brown, Sister in-law Liz (Forrest) Senn. Several nieces and nephews.

Jerry is predeceased by his parents, Father in-law Jack Boyer, Brother Daryl Tempel, Sisters Carol Kay and Julie Ray. Sister in-laws Becky Tempel, Lorraine Tempel. Nephews Daryl Tempel Jr., Darrin Tempel, Matthew Brown and Great randson Zeelynd Joly.

A special thank you to the staff at Mercy Health/FHN and Jovan Bea for the wonderful care and support.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his name.

Service will be February 8, 2026 with visitation at 2:00 pm and the service at 3:00 pm at Open Bible Church, 3800 W Stephenson St Freeport IL. Paster Derrick Strickland officiating. Condolences can be shared with the family at www.walkermortuary.com
