Joan Karlene Dornink, 77, of Dakota passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at her home. Born April 1, 1937 in Freeport she was the daughter of John C. "Hans" and Geneva Maurine (Miller) Wenger. Karlene was a 1955 Dakota High School graduate and was valedictorian of her class. On August 6, 1955 she and Francis E. Dornink were united in marriage and were lifetime farmers in the Dakota area. She was a member of St. Paul Church of Epleyanna, Sunday School Superintendent, Illinois Flying Farmers and the Queen of Illinois Flying Farmers, recipient of the DAR Award and Stephenson County Home Extension. For 20 years Karlene was a teacher's aide at Dakota Elementary School. She enjoyed painting ceramics, gardening and received her pilot's license. She also enjoyed taking care of her boys and attending sporting events that her children and grandchildren were involved in. Surviving are her husband Fran of Dakota; three sons Randall (Dina) Dornink of Polo, David (Jodie Venditti) Dornink of Dakota and Brian (Lori) Dornink of Freeport; nine grandchildren Jason (Kevin Collins) Dornink, Charity (Pete) Rhode, Josh (Dianna) Dornink, Chris Dornink, Kyle Dornink, Kendra (Josh Rowe) Dornink, Tug Dornink, Kirby (Jamie) Dornink and Kacie Dornink; five great grandchildren Haleigh, Aubrie, Brody, Mason and Levi; sister Debbie (Jerry) Fortner of Davis; niece Christie (Steve) Moss; nephew Jeremy (Amber) Fortner; uncle Robert (Iva) Miller of Freeport. Preceding her in death were her parents and daughter-in-law Connie. Visitation will be Sunday 2-5 p.m. at St. Paul Church of Epleyanna rural Davis. Funeral service will be Monday 11 a.m. at Church with Reverend Scott Naevasted and Reverend Richard Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the Church Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the St. Paul Church.
