On the evening of July 2nd 2026, Joan Clair Schulz went to live with her parents in heaven. She was born on August 10, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the second daughter of Martha and Harold Anderson. As a young girl, and continuing through high school, she studied dance, in all its forms. She attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Two weeks later, she said her wedding vows with Roger Schulz and then accompanied him to the Middle East for two years as he served in a government position.

Returning to the United States in 1969, Joan began her teaching career in Parma, Ohio and continued later in Freeport, Il, teaching third and then fourth grade for the next 23 years. In 2008, she, along with two of her fellow teachers, received an award from the Illinois State Board of Education naming them as the top Teaching Team in Illinois. Joan was a proud member of P.E.O. for nearly fifty years.

She is survived by her husband Roger, two sons, Tory (Rita) and Kevin (Tina) and two granddaughters, Kendall and Delaney, and two step grandsons, Brandon and Ryan. She is predeceased by her parents and elder sister.
