Joseph T Maupin, 86, of Freeport, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Stephenson Nursing Center.
Born December 11, 1924 in Polsgrove, Kentucky he was the son of James and Sarah (Thurman) Maupin. He married Louise Taylor November 11, 1945.
He received his BS Degree in Engineering from the University of Kentucky and his Master's Degree from the University of Minnesota.
He was a World War II weather officer Air force veteran
Joseph was an electrical engineer working for North Western Long Lines, Bell Telephone Laboratories, and 29 years with Honeywell in Freeport.
He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church and one of the last members of the Tuesday Emmert Drug Coffee group.
Joseph enjoyed restoring old cars and was an avid golf player.
Surviving is his wife, Louise of Freeport; 1 daughter, Suzanne Nelsen of Willmar, Minnesota; 3 sons, Harold J. (Joan) Maupin of Washington, D.C., Stephen E. (Nancy) Maupin of ST. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Kenneth T. (Svetlana) Maupin of Aspen, Colorado; 1 sister, Lucille Gasperini of Santa Rosa, California; 1 brother, William (Lorene) Maupin of Campbellsville, Kentucky; 5 grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa) Nelsen, Eric (Jin) Nelsen, Amanda (Will Abrahamson), Jennifer and Timothy Maupin; 5 great great grandchildren, Olivia, Isaac, and Tobias Nelsen, Leo and Leif Abrahamson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Margaret; and his son-in-law, Lee Nelsen.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial services will be Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Embury United Methodist Church with Reverend Jonathan Singleton officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday 2 p.m. until time of service at Embury.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for Embury United Methodist Church, Freeport Public Library, and Lewy Body Dementia Association.
