John Scott Anderson
, Freeport, retired Freeport Fire Inspector, was born September 20, 1951 in Savanna, Illinois to John "Jack" Edward and Betty Lou (Scharf) Anderson. He married Colleen Mary Butler on August 11, 1973 in Freeport, Illinois. Scott loved his family dearly and was always there for them, emotionally and physically. He was level-headed and dependable. He was a fan of the Cubs, Bears, the Fighting Illini, sports racing, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Scott was a graduate of Hanover High School and attended Highland Community College. He attended many fire education courses in the span of his fire department career.
Scott served on the Freeport Fire Department from 1/16/1975 until 8/28/2009…34 years of service. He retired as the Fire Inspector with the City of Freeport.
He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles #679.
Scott is survived by his wife, Colleen Mary; daughter, Heather Rose; son, Ian Michael (Sarah Maria); granddaughters, Charlotte Lorraine and Ellison Mary; mother, Betty Anderson; sister, Vicki (Bill) Davis; brothers: Steve (Mino) Anderson; Todd (Wanda) Anderson; brother-in-law, Gary (Bridget) Madison, and sister-in-law, Brenda (Shawn) Butler; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding Scott in passing were his twin daughters, Kristen Mary and Hillary Elizabeth; father, Jack Anderson; niece, Shana Marie Anderson; sister-in-law, Bridget Ann (Gary) Madison; nephew, Eric Peter Madison; brothers-in-law: Thomas George Butler III, Kevin Michael Butler and Shawn Patrick (Brenda) Butler.
Visitation is Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Mass will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at Friday, January 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery on Stephenson Street, following with a gathering at the Eagle's FOE on Galena Avenue afterwards. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
