John R. Cable, 82, of Freeport, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at his home.
Born December 14, 1926 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma he was the son of Beatty and Leatha (Laging) Cable. He married Nadine Matthews May 6, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He attended Louisiana State University for one year of basic engineering and the University of Oklahoma, at Norman, Oklahoma for three years of Electrical Engineering.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in both World War II and Korean War.
John was a Computers Systems Analyst employed by IBM, Xerox, Chrysler, Phillips Petroleum, and National Lock.
He was a member of First Free Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Nadine of Freeport; 1 son, Steven Cable of Bolingbrook; 3 daughters, Janette (Harry) Benoit of Freeport, Jennifer (John) Meiborg of South Beloit, and Julie Woehler of Rockford; 2 sisters, Peggy Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Roma (Jim) Cox of Moore, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Ryan Meiborg, Rachel Meiborg Kelly, Chelsea Benoit, Brandon Woehler, and Nicholas Woehler; 4 great grandchildren, Caleb, Blake, Makenzie, and Carly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Samuel and James Cable; 1 sister-in-law, Letaza Cable, 1 brother in-law, Adair Smith.
Funeral will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at First Free Methodist Church with Reverend Don Jamerson officiating. Entombment will be in the Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Monday 5 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
Memorials have been established for First Free Methodist Church and FHN Memorial Hospice.
